German soup Eintopf

Eintopf is a hearty, thick, rich soup that German housewives cook for home-cooked meals.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pour some vegetable oil into a heavy bottomed saucepan and heat it up.
  2. Cut pork and chicken fillet into pieces and put in a saucepan with oil.
  3. Brown the meat on all sides, about 10 minutes.
  4. Peel onions and carrots, cut into cubes and add to the pan with meat. Stir and fry for a few minutes, until the carrots are soft.
  5. Pour the meat with hot broth or boiling water, so that the liquid covers the meat, bring to a boil and simmer for about forty minutes.
  6. Then add washed peas and lentils to the soup.
  7. Add diced potatoes, celery root and pumpkin.
  8. Add broth (water) so that it covers the meat with vegetables by about 2 cm.
  9. Bring to a boil and cook until vegetables are tender.
  10. 5 minutes before the end of cooking, add chopped smoked sausage, salt, pepper, spices and seasonings.
  11. Give the finished soup a little time to infuse. Serve sprinkled with chopped herbs.
